Public attention surged in Kolkata’s Rajabazar area on Wednesday after a pair of snakes was spotted entwined by the Narkeldanga canal. The snakes, coiled around each other, attracted a large number of people to the location. Onlookers gathered at the site, capturing photos and videos of the sight on their mobile phones. The incident occurred during the Hindu month of Shravan, which holds religious importance, particularly in worship connected to Lord Shiva.
Many locals viewed the incident through a devotional lens, as snakes are traditionally associated with Lord Shiva. Some referred to the sighting as a rare moment and said they had never seen snakes in such a position before. A local resident said, “This is the first time I have seen two snakes entwined like this.”
According to experts, the behavior observed is typical among snakes and is part of the species' natural mating or reproductive process. They stated that such activity is commonly seen during monsoon season. To ensure the safety of the snakes and prevent public interference, local residents informed the forest department.
